About the Supplier:
Kirby & West Dairy is a historic, family-run business that has been serving the Leicester community since the 1860s. Founded by James Kirby, a ‘cow keeper’ who started Highfields Dairy at 36 Hanover Street, the company has evolved over three generations of the Kirby family. In 1934, they relocated to a new premises on Western Boulevard, renowned for its striking Art Deco frontage. Throughout its history, Kirby & West has been recognised for its innovative approaches to dairy delivery, including the invention of milk vending machines and the development of electric milk floats. Today, the company continues to maintain its commitment to quality and community service.

Milk Supplied:
Kirby & West has a product range that includes whole, semi-skimmed, and skimmed milk, available in environmentally friendly returnable glass bottles and recyclable plastic containers. This ensures customers receive fresh dairy products while supporting local agriculture.

Sustainability & Ethical Practices:
Demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, Kirby & West pioneered the use of electric milk floats, designed by Harold Smith, to reduce carbon emissions during deliveries. They also introduced milk vending machines, providing fresh, chilled milk 24 hours a day, reducing the need for single-use packaging.
